BEYOND CARING
Beyond Caring
Beyond Caring is Trish’s first pamphlet – a collection of 40 poems exploring her role as a mother and carer of two sons with the life-limiting condition Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
FROM BEYOND CARING…
Service Engineer’s Visit
He turns up when the computer tells him,
never used a hoist in his life. Fully qualified.
Looks about fourteen.
Came here for a stag do once,
recognises the pub.
Holds up a sling for inspection,
eager to find fault, to be first
to notice a frayed edge, a tear,
a split seam.
Thinks affairs at Derby County have got out of hand,
more a rugby man himself.
No idea about the service needs
of four identical slings.
No, nothing on the screen.
Likes how we’ve done the Christmas lights.

Beyond Caring can be purchased at Five Leaves Bookshop, Nottingham.
“You’ll find anger, fear and regret , but alongside those sit the day-to-day joys and flashes of humour that most families experience…”
“Honest, poignant and true, these poems give us a startling insight into one carer’s life, with all its extremes and mixed emotions, not excluding real joy and humour.”
